Ghanaian musician Edwin Eshun, known widely as Beeztrap KOTM, has shared his thoughts on a trending debate about the ownership of “Detty December,” a popular festive season term. Some social media users have suggested that Nigerians have appropriated the term, but Beeztrap KOTM firmly believes it remains a Ghanaian tradition.
In a conversation with GhanaWeb journalist Joseph Henry Mensah during the 2024 Rapperholic concert, the artist behind the hit track “Yesu” dismissed the notion of “Detty December” being taken over by any other country.
He remarked, “I’ve been out of Accra this December, spending time around Dormaa and nearby areas, but let’s be clear—Detty December belongs to Ghana. Nobody can take that from us.”
Reflecting on his journey, Beeztrap KOTM described 2024 as a defining year for his career, marking a significant turning point. He expressed his determination to maintain momentum in the new year.
“This year has been a blessing, a breakthrough for me. I’ve been in the music game, but 2024 was the year I truly felt embraced. Honestly, I took things steady this year, but 2025? It’s going to be intense. I’m coming with consistent hits, back-to-back,” he shared.
The 2024 Rapperholic concert, held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on December 25, featured performances from notable Ghanaian acts like King Promise, King Paluta, Pappy Kojo, and Efya Noktunal, alongside Nigerian stars such as Ruger and Patoranking. The event showcased a vibrant mix of talent, cementing its place as one of the highlights of the festive season.
