Nigerian music icon Inetimi Alfred Odon, popularly known as Timaya, has shared insights into his perspective on marriage and fatherhood. At 44, the “Dem Mama” crooner remains unmarried, a choice he attributes to his desire for peace of mind and a stress-free life.
In a candid conversation with Naija FM, Timaya revealed that marriage has never been a top priority for him, though he remains open to the possibility in the future. He emphasized his low tolerance for conflict in relationships, stating, “If marriage ever becomes an option for me and it doesn’t bring peace, I will walk away. I’ve always left relationships when they became stressful because I value clear communication and a calm life.”
The award-winning musician, who is a father to four children from three different mothers, also reflected on the joys and challenges of parenting. He highlighted the importance of maintaining strong connections with his children, who primarily live with their mothers but spend significant time with him during holidays and other occasions.
“Fatherhood is a beautiful but demanding responsibility. I ensure my kids feel my love and presence in their lives,” Timaya shared, noting that his children often stay with him for extended visits, particularly during festive periods like Christmas.
While his lifestyle defies traditional expectations, Timaya remains fulfilled, blending his parenting duties with his personal values and career.
