Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah has attributed the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections to internal divisions that weakened its campaign and fractured unity.
The NPP’s bid to “break the eight” and secure a consecutive term in power ultimately ended in failure, as the party lost the presidency and saw a significant reduction in its parliamentary seats.
In an interview on Thursday, December 12, Ahiagbah pointed to unresolved internal issues as a central factor in the party’s defeat.
While acknowledging that the government’s performance may have influenced voters, he emphasized that these internal conflicts had a far greater impact on the election outcome.
Ahiagbah remarked, “The problem we are facing now stems from internal issues.”
“Democracies often experience such divisions within political parties,” he continued. “Internal elections can lead to challenging situations that require reconciliation and rebuilding.”
He further noted, “Once in power, these issues tend to worsen, creating rifts that are tough to mend. We recognize some of these challenges.”
