Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called on Alan Kyerematen, the leader of the Movement for Change, to step away from politics entirely.
Kyerematen, a former NPP stalwart, broke ties with the party in 2023 after accusing its leadership of bias and mistreatment during the presidential primaries. Following his departure, he established the Movement for Change and ran as an independent candidate in the December 7, 2024, general elections.
Despite initial hopes that he could challenge the dominance of the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NDC’s John Mahama, Kyerematen’s campaign fell short of expectations. Securing just 0.28% of the total votes, he ranked fourth behind not only the frontrunners but also other smaller contenders.
This underwhelming performance led political observers to question his viability as a political force. Kyerematen, once regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential politicians, struggled to convert his reputation into electoral success.
Speaking on TV3, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe shared his perspective on Kyerematen’s political journey, suggesting it had reached its end. “I would advise Alan to walk away from politics. I don’t think he has any future in it,” he remarked during the interview, monitored by GhanaWeb.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also took issue with Kyerematen’s decision to remain in President Akufo-Addo’s administration during the president’s second term, despite his own ambitions for the highest office. “Alan had no business joining President Akufo-Addo’s second term when he knew he had presidential ambitions,” he added.
