Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, appointed Chairman of a five-member committee by President-elect John Mahama to investigate alleged corruption cases, has emphasized that the committee will carry out its responsibilities with integrity and fairness. He assured the public that the committee would operate independently and focus on addressing issues within the system.
“We assure you that we will not embark on a witch-hunt. We will carry out our mandate in a very honest, impartial, and objective manner,” Ablakwa stated.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, a day after the formation of the team, Ablakwa encouraged the public to trust the committee, highlighting his history of advocating for accountability in parliament.
“You have followed the work that some of us have done even in parliament. It has always been about the evidence, the documentation, and what we intercept that will protect the public purse, expose corruption, and highlight wrongdoing, helping our country move forward. That is our motivation,” he remarked.
He further clarified that the committee’s mission is not driven by personal animosity or targeting innocent individuals, but rather a commitment to uncovering corruption.
This initiative is part of Mr. Mahama’s pre-inauguration steps in his ongoing battle against corruption, set to take effect before his official swearing-in on January 7, 2025.
The committee’s main objective is to gather and investigate suspected corruption cases, and upon completion, the findings will be forwarded to the incoming Attorney-General and the newly appointed Office of the Special Prosecutor for further review and potential prosecution.
