Ghanaian actress Ebi Bright, who has recently been elected as the Member of Parliament for Tema Central, revealed the challenges she faced while pursuing a political career. The career diplomat shared in an interview with Graphic Showbiz that her political ambitions were met with significant skepticism and mockery.
Despite her background in the arts, Ebi was repeatedly told that politics was not for someone like her, with one person even asking, “Does this girl think politics is the Cantata she acts?” She emphasized how such marginalization occurs, but expressed hope that her victory would inspire other creatives to venture into politics.
Ebi’s success in securing the Tema Central seat, which is traditionally seen as a stronghold for the ruling NPP, came after several attempts since 2016. Reflecting on her journey, she noted how her first campaign in 2012, which was not under the NDC ticket, ignited a spark among her peers to consider politics seriously.
Looking forward, Ebi Bright, also a Development Communicator, shared her commitment to representing her constituents beyond partisan lines, stressing the importance of creating a strategy that serves the people of Tema Central.
