Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutoum on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dickson Adomako Kissi has urged the party’s leadership to focus on reuniting and welcoming back members who have drifted away.
Reflecting on the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, he emphasized the importance of solidarity in rebuilding the party and strategizing for the future. He highlighted the need to reconcile with Alan Kyerematen, who ran as an independent candidate in the presidential race, and others who have parted ways with the NPP.
Speaking during an interview on Neat FM on December 19, 2024, Dr. Adomako Kissi stressed the value of humility in approaching former members:
“We have to do our work and see how we can bring the party back to power. But for now, we have to bring everybody on board, including those who went to form their own party. Even those who went to form their party, we have to bring all of them back to the NPP to wage war against the NDC in the next election.”
He pointed out that even a small number of departures could make a significant impact:
“If Alan had left with even three people, those souls are very important because of the situation we find ourselves in. I think this time around we need all of them. Initially, we thought we were many, so we didn’t need them. We have to calm down as a party, solve our internal matters, and bring them back.”
The Electoral Commission, led by Jean Mensa, announced the election results on December 9, 2024. John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, emerged victorious with 6,328,397 votes, defeating NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who garnered 4,657,304 votes. Additionally, the NDC secured a parliamentary majority, marking a historic achievement.
