Ghanaian singer-songwriter Efya Nokturnal remains unfazed by calls from some music enthusiasts for her to step away from the industry. Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie during the Bhim Fest on December 22, 2024, the artist emphasized her unwavering passion for music and her commitment to her craft, which she described as both her livelihood and her life’s purpose.
Efya, who has been a dominant force in the Ghanaian music scene for more than a decade, dismissed the notion of stepping down. She expressed her excitement about her future in music, stating:
“I really love what I do; it is my source of livelihood, and that is my purpose. I found my purpose early in life. Sometimes people will say you have been doing it for a very long time, but it is not a very long time. Because I am still alive, and I just entered my thirties, I can do it for thirty more years. When people call me an old geezer, I laugh because I have not even done the things I want to do. I am excited for the future and for my growth and development.”
Addressing the pressures musicians face to achieve international recognition, such as winning a Grammy Award, Efya encouraged her peers to focus on their individual journeys. She acknowledged the role fans play in sparking debates but urged fellow artists to remain level-headed.
“Everybody has a different life journey. Fans will make comments to either encourage you or trigger a response that becomes a talking point online. Artists should be careful how they react and not take it personally. You know, the Grammys are not going anywhere.”
With a career spanning over ten years, Efya has created an impressive catalog of hit songs, including “Best In Me,” “Forgetting Me,” and “One of Your Own.” Despite her accomplishments, she remains eager to explore new opportunities and expand her horizons in music.
