45-year-old herbalist and farmer from Plotso,Nana Kwaku Dum, a suburb of Asankrangwa in the Western Region, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labor by the Tarkwa circuit court for sodomizing a 10-year-old boy three times.
Dum, charged with sodomy, pleaded guilty, and the court, presided over by Mrs Hathia Ama Manu, convicted him on his own plea.
Chief Inspector Adams Mumuni, prosecuting, said the victim resides at Yirase with his mother and grandmother. In 2023, the victim traveled to Asankrangwa and, around 7:00 pm, went to the Yirase lorry station to board a vehicle home but found none available.
Seeing the victim alone, Dum approached him, offered to take him home for the night, and continue his journey the next day. The victim accepted and followed Dum to his house, where they slept on the same bed.
According to Chief Inspector Mumuni, Dum applied a substance around the victim’s anus while he was asleep and had sex with him through his anus. The victim woke up during the act, and Dum quickly put on his boxer shorts and threatened to kill the victim if he told anyone.
Dum locked the victim in his room for three days, during which he sexually assaulted him three times. The victim managed to escape on the fourth day and narrated the ordeal to his mother, who reported the matter to the police.
Dum was subsequently arrested and cautioned before an independent witness.
