The long-standing feud between Ghanaian dancehall heavyweights Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale has been reignited, with Stonebwoy making provocative remarks about Shatta Wale’s inclusion in Vybz Kartel’s upcoming concert in Jamaica.
Shatta Wale’s fans celebrated the news of his performance at the highly anticipated event, viewing it as a significant milestone for the artiste. Many took the opportunity to laud Shatta Wale’s growing international recognition, drawing comparisons to Stonebwoy and highlighting achievements such as Shatta Wale’s collaboration with Beyoncé.
However, Stonebwoy, known for his pivotal role in Ghanaian reggae and dancehall, was quick to counter the narrative. Speaking on Angel FM, he defended his contributions to the genre and underscored his history of international engagements. He emphasized his efforts in bridging Ghanaian and Jamaican music, mentioning his past performances at major events like Reggae Sumfest and his collaborations with Jamaican artistes, including bringing dancehall star Spice to Ghana.
“Can he fly someone home? What he is now going to do in Jamaica, I’ve done it several times,” Stonebwoy stated. He further highlighted that his 2018 performance at Reggae Sumfest was a testament to his global reach.
When the host noted that Shatta Wale’s invitation to Jamaica was being celebrated as a prestigious achievement, Stonebwoy dismissed the notion, arguing that bringing international acts to Ghana is a greater accomplishment. “Is it Jamaica that I haven’t been to before? I’ve gone past that stage. Now, I’m the one bringing them home,” he remarked.
Stonebwoy went on to downplay Shatta Wale’s role in the Vybz Kartel concert, labeling it as minor and describing him as merely a “curtain raiser.” “This is just his second time going to Jamaica, and even at that, he’s just going to raise the curtains at Vybz Kartel’s show,” he said.
The comments have rekindled the rivalry between the two artistes, sparking heated debates among their fans on social media. Stonebwoy’s assertion that “Ghanaians hate the truth” suggests he remains resolute in his stance, further fueling the ongoing discourse surrounding their careers.
