Minister-designate for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson has underscored his commitment to enhancing revenue mobilisation as a key focus of his administration. He highlighted that previous finance ministers have not adequately addressed this issue to effectively boost revenue.
During his vetting on January 13, 2025, Dr. Forson asserted, “I will prioritise revenue mobilisation…a lot of Finance Ministers have not done that. We should not leave that to the Ghana Revenue Authority [GRA] alone.”
Appointed by President John Dramani Mahama on January 9, 2025, Dr. Forson brings extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. Having served as Deputy Minister for Finance in 2013, he was also part of the country’s Economic Management Team.
A fiscal economist, Chartered Accountant, tax expert, and entrepreneur, Dr. Forson boasts more than 20 years of experience in his field. He has served on numerous boards, including those of the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
Dr. Forson holds a first degree in Accounting from South Bank University, London, a Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Oxford, UK, and another Master’s degree in Economics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. He completed his PhD in Business and Management (Finance option) at KNUST in September 2020.
His leadership experience extends to his role as Managing Director of Forson Contracts Limited in the UK and CEO of Omega Africa Holding Limited. Known for his advocacy of good governance, transparency, and accountability, Dr. Forson is highly regarded for his unwavering dedication to public service, particularly in his home region of Central Ghana.
