Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Edward Ennin, has urged the government led by John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action against certain NPP officials accused of embezzling and mismanaging state funds.
In an interview on Okay FM on January 13, 2025, Ennin claimed that some NPP leaders received substantial sums of money from EXIM Bank, intended for road construction projects in the Ashanti Region and other parts of the country. However, these funds were allegedly misused, and the projects were left uncompleted.
“My concern is for the government to reveal the names of the individuals who received funds from EXIM Bank,” he stated. “I am aware of people who were entrusted with significant amounts of money but squandered it instead of using it for its rightful purpose.”
Ennin urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to adopt firm and transparent measures to expose and hold accountable those responsible for such acts. He emphasized the need for public accountability, insisting that those involved must be exposed.
“We need to identify these people and label them for what they are—thieves,” Ennin declared. “If John Mahama fails to act, I will personally voice my frustrations on radio. These individuals were given contracts for roads in the Ashanti Region, and their failure to deliver not only betrayed public trust but also contributed to the NPP’s loss in its stronghold.”
Ennin further advised the NPP to take immediate steps to dissociate itself from such individuals, whom he accused of tarnishing the party’s reputation.
“These are the same people who pretended to be the most loyal members of the party, yet they took funds meant for road projects and misused them,” he remarked. “Their actions have caused significant harm to the party’s image, and it’s time to hold them accountable.”
