President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Professor Ransford Edward Van Gyampo, a well-known academic and political analyst, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority.
His appointment follows the tenure of Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who previously held the position under the Akufo-Addo administration.
Prof. Gyampo, a Political Science professor at the University of Ghana, is expected to apply his deep knowledge of governance, public administration, and policy research to enhance the operations of the Ghana Shippers Authority, which plays a key role in regulating the nation’s shipping and logistics industry.
In this new role, he is anticipated to “leverage his expertise to further strengthen the shipping and logistics sector in Ghana, ensuring its growth and resilience on the global stage.”
About Professor Ransford Gyampo
Born on 31 March 1977 in Accra, Prof. Gyampo has built a remarkable career in academia, governance, and policy development.
He earned a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana and pursued advanced studies at Tufts University in the United States. He is also recognized as the Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana.
His research covers diverse fields, including “democratic development in Ghana and Africa, electoral studies, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, and building resilient peace in Africa.”
Beyond Ghana, Prof. Gyampo has contributed to global academia, having held roles as a visiting scholar at the University of South Florida and a visiting professor at the University of Bristol.
He also spent 14 years at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana), leading critical socio-economic and governance research projects, which played a role in shaping national policies through “evidence-based recommendations.”
