Ghanaian comedian Kwaku Sintim-Misa, known as KSM, has lauded Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his timely intervention in diffusing potential unrest following the 2024 elections. Speaking on his YouTube channel, KSM emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s decision to accept the election results, even before the official declaration, played a key role in preserving peace and preventing confusion.
KSM explained that both major political parties, the NDC and NPP, were capable of monitoring and gathering election results as they came in. However, as the NDC appeared to be performing well, rumors and suspicions about delays from the Electoral Commission (EC) began to swirl, stoking tensions across the country.
“Rumours started coming in. ‘Why haven’t we heard from the EC? Are they trying to rig? Are they doing this? Are they doing that?’ They could all be wrong. But that’s where perception is very, very dangerous. So when Bawumia came out to concede based on the factors that were happening, it was just in time to calm tensions down in Ghana,” KSM remarked.
He further noted that Bawumia’s swift action helped avoid what could have been “very uncomfortable moments in Ghana,” bringing a sense of stability and calm to the nation.
“And that brought some sanity and some sort of peace into this country. Trust me, sir, if we were saying we were waiting for the EC to officially come after, it could have brought some very uncomfortable moments in Ghana,” KSM added.
His remarks came shortly after the Electoral Commission announced John Dramani Mahama as the president-elect of Ghana, declaring him the winner with 6,328,397 votes, or 56.55% of the total votes, two days after the elections on December 7.
