Prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Amoako Baah has cautioned against appointing Alexander Afenyo-Markin as the Minority Leader in Parliament. He argued that such a move would reward poor leadership, referencing Afenyo-Markin’s tenure as Majority Leader, which he deemed unsatisfactory.
“When you are in opposition and work hard, you earn promotion. But if you lead a majority and end up demoted, how can you justify staying in charge?” Dr. Baah remarked during an interview with Starr Today.
This perspective arises amidst growing advocacy from NPP MPs and groups for Afenyo-Markin to lead the party in the 9th Parliament. Notable proponents include First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu and the NPP women’s caucus, which also supports Asokwa MP Patricia Appiagyei as deputy leader.
However, Dr. Baah insists the party must prioritize its interests. “This is about pushing the party forward, not indulging a failed strategy. If past approaches didn’t yield results, what new direction is being offered now?” he questioned.
