John Dumelo, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has announced the heartbreaking loss of his father, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr.
In a heartfelt Facebook post on Saturday, January 4, 2025, Dumelo shared the profound impact his father had on his life and career. He reminisced about their last moments together, revealing that his father had been overjoyed about his son’s election and had offered invaluable advice for his new role in governance.
“You lived your life well at age 75. Just yesterday, you called me multiple times, asking me to come over. We sat together, talking for hours about politics, life, farming, business—and, of course, we gossiped,” Dumelo recalled. He also mentioned how his father expressed his hopes for his swearing-in, saying, “You specifically told me to serve diligently in government.”
Dumelo recounted the sudden turn of events that led to his father’s passing. “Ten minutes after I left your house, I received a call saying you were unresponsive. I rushed back, and we took you to the hospital, but you were gone,” he wrote, expressing his shock and grief.
In his tribute, Dumelo highlighted the deep bond they shared, describing his father as more than just a parent. “Thank you for being my father, my best friend, my number one cheerleader, and for everything you’ve done for me. Say hi to Mum for all of us. We will miss you deeply.”
Dumelo’s father passed away just days before his son’s swearing-in ceremony, leaving a bittersweet void in what would have been a joyous occasion for the family.
The late Engineer Anato-Dumelo, who died at the age of 75, was predeceased by his wife in 2023 at age 71. She passed away shortly after her son was declared the unopposed parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress in Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Since the announcement, Dumelo has been inundated with condolences from supporters and well-wishers, all mourning the loss of a remarkable man who left an indelible mark on his son and those who knew him.
