Ghanaian rapper Amerado Burner has voiced his concerns about the growing trend of comparing Ghana’s creative industry to those of neighboring countries like Nigeria. Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Joseph Henry Mensah during the 2024 Rapperholic concert at the Accra International Conference Centre on December 25, he urged Ghanaians to appreciate their own talent and focus on nurturing the industry locally.
He highlighted the achievements of artists like KiDi, Sarkodie, and others who continue to raise Ghana’s flag high, cautioning against comparisons that could undermine these efforts. Amerado called for unity and consistent support for Ghanaian music, emphasizing the need to create a sustainable future for the next generation of artists.
Discussing his aspirations for 2025, Amerado expressed hope for a brighter future, not only for himself but for everyone entering the new year. The concert, held at the Grand Arena, featured performances by notable Ghanaian acts such as King Promise and Efya Nokturnal, alongside Nigerian stars Ruger and Patoranking.
“Comparisons kill the game. It’s about time that we acknowledge our artistes who are raising the map of Ghana. Because Kidi, Black, Sarkodie, Kweku Smoke, and the rest held their shows, and they sold out, so why the comparisons? If we don’t focus on our own and focus on different things at the same time, we end up losing everything.
“We should keep on supporting our music and pray that God will give us more talent so when those holding the music industry are no more, the upcoming ones can hold on to it. Let’s stop Nigeria and Ghana comparison and maintain our own, and we won’t lose anything,” he said.
