Prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former parliamentary aspirant for the Bantama Constituency, Ralph Agyapong has called for the immediate resignation of all national executives of the party.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia morning show, Ralph, who is also a brother and legal counsel to Kennedy Agyapong, a former NPP flagbearer aspirant, criticized the leadership for the party’s poor showing in the 2024 general elections.
“Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was President of Ghana, yet we were led into opposition. The NPP must reflect—when have we ever performed this badly, securing only 38%? It’s unprecedented. If the party is serious about returning to power, then every executive must step aside,” he remarked.
He further emphasized that for a governing party aiming to “break the 8,” securing a minimum of 45% of votes should have been non-negotiable. “To end up with 38% instead is unacceptable. There’s no question—every one of them must resign,” he said emphatically.
Ralph also highlighted the need for significant reforms within the party’s internal structures. While acknowledging ongoing conversations about change, he maintained that the resignation of current executives should be a non-negotiable starting point. “Reforms are happening, and everyone is sharing their ideas, but the first step must be for the executives to leave office,” he stated.
The 2024 general elections saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by John Dramani Mahama, claim a decisive victory. Mahama secured 56.55% of the vote, translating to 6,328,397 ballots, while the NPP’s Mahamudu Bawumia garnered 41.61%, or 4,657,304 votes.
In Parliament, the NDC also achieved a commanding majority, winning 183 seats compared to the NPP’s 88. Independent candidates claimed four seats, while the outcome of the Ablekuma North constituency remains unresolved.
