The Independent MP-elect for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A Plus has expressed his commitment to fulfilling the promises he made during his campaign. In a recent interview with UTV, shared by Gh Page on December 10, 2024, he assured his constituents that he would take immediate action to address land issues that have affected many in the area.
“Before I went to the contest, I had done my research to see if they preferred the sitting MP or not. So after the team had conducted the research, we got to know that 70 plus people didn’t like the sitting MP. So we knew what the people wanted, and it was land issues. Some people have seized their lands for a long time, so this week I am going to do some biggest actions that they have not seen before,” A Plus revealed.
He further emphasized his plan to return seized lands to rightful owners, saying, “All the lands that have been seized over the years, I am going to retrieve all of them and establish that all those areas belong to us.”
When discussing his victory in the elections, A Plus attributed his success to a thorough understanding of the constituency’s needs. “When we started the campaign, I told my people what I was going to do, but Afenyo-Markin and his people were trying to dispute it. We also know there are no good roads in Gomoa Central; the only good road there is full of potholes. So I knew the roads were their issues, and as we did a needs assessment on the people, we also got to know that they lacked toilet facilities. So that is what we used as our campaign message and it has worked,” he explained.
A Plus contested the Gomoa Central seat as an independent candidate, winning the race by securing 14,277 votes, surpassing the incumbent, Nana Eyiah Quansah of the New Patriotic Party, who garnered 11,637 votes. Other candidates collectively obtained 10,112 votes.
