Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government following a peaceful election process.
The NDC, led by John Dramani Mahama, secured a decisive victory over the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections. Mahama’s return to the presidency marks the end of an eight-year period in opposition.
Sharing his perspective on social media, Gyan emphasized the importance of national unity and collective effort to support the new administration. He urged citizens to prioritize progress over partisanship and adopt positive attitudes.
“You know, when there is an issue, I will share my thoughts. Let’s support the government. Any government that comes to power, let’s support them. When you go and buy things at GHC 50 and you sell them at GHC 1000, the country will go through hardship,” he stated.
He further added, “Ghana has decided. Let’s put party politics aside, and if your party has won, focus on government. For us as citizens, we will also support. We also have to change our attitudes, and we have to support the new government. Let’s congratulate the new government, and that is my message.”
Gyan, who stepped away from active involvement in politics, notably withdrew from Vice President Bawumia’s manifesto team prior to the elections. He explained that his decision was rooted in fairness and a desire to focus on his philanthropic initiatives.
As Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances, Gyan remains a prominent figure and a voice for unity and progress in the nation.
