John Dramani Mahama has officially assumed office as the sixth President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic. On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, he took the oath of allegiance and the presidential oath in a ceremony held in parliament at the Black Star Square, Accra. The swearing-in was conducted by the Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Torkornoo.
Following him, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana’s first female Vice President, took the oath of office and the Vice-presidential oath.
Having served as the fourth President of the Fourth Republic between 2013 and 2017, Mahama is now the first president to lose an election and return to power after winning two subsequent elections in a landslide victory.
