A 35-year-old businessman, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, has been remanded into custody by the Madina District Court until April 1, 2025, in connection with the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.
Koranteng, who was arrested on March 15, 2025—six years after Suale’s death—is accused of supplying the journalist’s photographs to Kennedy Agyapong, which allegedly contributed to his murder.
At the court hearing on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Police Prosecutor Chief Inspector Nana Afuabamfoa Bamfo informed the court that investigations were still ongoing, requesting the accused remain in custody. The accused reportedly admitted to giving Suale’s photos to Agyapong. However, his lawyer, Kofi Essel, argued for bail, citing that his client had individuals of sufficient means willing to stand as sureties.
Presiding Magistrate, Her Worship Susanna Nyarkotey, raised concerns about why someone accused of merely supplying photographs was being held on a murder charge. In response, the prosecutor stated that “the charge sheet could be amended upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
Koranteng has been provisionally charged with murder, but his plea was not taken.
Case Background
According to Chief Inspector Bamfo, the case was initiated by Ibrahim Kamiru Tahidu, a relative of the late Ahmed Suale. The accused, also known as Amakye, is the Managing Director of ISPY Company and was once a colleague of Suale at Tiger Eye Company, the investigative firm led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The prosecution outlined that Koranteng had multiple interactions with Suale and his family before the journalist’s death. The situation intensified in June 2018 when Kennedy Agyapong allegedly aired Suale’s photographs on Net TV, calling for action against him. The prosecution stated that “tensions escalated” following the broadcast.
Subsequently, on January 16, 2019, Ahmed Suale was shot and killed in Madina. Investigators later discovered that Koranteng’s call records placed him in Madina near the journalist’s residence both before and during the time of the murder.
Further findings revealed that on the night of the incident, “the accused traveled from Madina to his residence in Amasaman late in the evening at about 2315 hours, after the murder.”
The court also heard that Koranteng had evaded police questioning multiple times before fleeing to the UK in August 2019. However, after returning to Ghana, he was arrested in Amasaman on March 15, 2025, through intelligence operations.
During interrogation, Koranteng acknowledged knowing Suale, visiting Kennedy Agyapong, and appearing in photos with the deceased but denied ever selling the photographs.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover any other individuals involved in the case.
