Actress Martha Ankomah has rejected the public apology issued by Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as Lil Win, in the ongoing GH₵5 million defamation case currently before the High Court. According to Ankomah, the apology offered by the actor does not meet the necessary criteria for a proper retraction and apology.
As a result, it is likely that a revised apology will be issued as both parties continue to explore the possibility of settling the case out of court. The High Court in Accra has postponed the matter to February 25, 2025, for both parties to present the terms of their settlement.
The hearing, which took place on December 13, 2024, was held In-camera, lasting almost three hours. Both Martha Ankomah, the plaintiff, and Lil Win, the defendant, were present in court alongside their legal teams, discussing how to reach an amicable resolution.
Earlier this year, on February 14, Ankomah filed a defamation suit against Lil Win after a viral video surfaced in which the actor allegedly insulted her in response to comments she supposedly made. In the video, Lil Win downplayed Ankomah’s status in the film industry, which led to the defamation lawsuit.
Through the legal action, Ankomah is demanding GH₵5 million in damages, along with an apology and retraction of the defamatory statements, to be issued with equal prominence. Specifically, she seeks: “Damages in the sum of GH₵5 million for the defamatory statements made by Defendant. Compensatory damages for the damage done to the reputation of Plaintiff. Aggravated damages for the reckless and malicious publication of the defamatory words. An order directing Defendant to publish an apology and a retraction of the said defamatory words with the same prominence.”
Lil Win and his legal team have entered an appearance, and both parties are still engaged in discussions to potentially resolve the matter outside the courtroom.
