The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed allegations linking former President John Dramani Mahama to the ownership of a high-end Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 Xtreme Edition.
Eric Adjei, the NDC’s Deputy Communications Officer, refuted the claims during an interview on Nhyira FM on Friday, January 17, 2025. He explained that the luxurious vehicle, which features bulletproof capabilities, a 3.3L V6 Turbo Diesel engine, and advanced terrain controls, belongs to Mahama’s brother, Ibrahim Mahama—not the former president.
“The narrative being peddled is baseless. This particular vehicle was part of the convoy during President Mahama’s appearance at Cantonments to deliver his acceptance speech after Jean Mensa’s declaration. If he wasn’t the president then, where would the car have come from? We didn’t borrow it from the presidency,” Adjei emphasized.
Addressing the social media buzz over the vehicle’s price and ownership, Adjei accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of fabricating stories to tarnish Mahama’s image. He pointed out that Ibrahim Mahama had been a significant source of support during the campaign, supplying most of the vehicles used by Mahama.
“It’s well known that nearly all the vehicles President Mahama used during his campaign tours were provided by Gold House. So why the sudden fixation on inflated prices and imaginary funds?” he questioned, adding that the accusations were simply another attempt at propaganda.
Adjei also highlighted the impracticality of such claims, given Ghana’s economic struggles. “As things stand, students are struggling for food, and IPPs are pressing for payment of arrears. How could a government still without a finance minister afford such a car? It’s all a fabrication by the NPP to score cheap political points,” he asserted.
He concluded by urging the public to disregard the rumors, emphasizing that Mahama’s integrity and the goodwill he enjoys from Ghanaians remain intact despite the alleged smear campaign.
