President Mahama has called for greater transparency and accountability within the police service, stressing the need to eliminate corruption in law enforcement.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, Mahama underscored the detrimental impact of corruption on justice and public trust.
“Mr. IGP, your role will also involve rooting out corruption within the service,” he stated.
He pointed out that unethical practices within the police force not only damage its reputation but also weaken the very foundation of the justice system.
“Corruption in law enforcement undermines justice and weakens public confidence in our security agencies,” he added.
The President urged the new IGP to take firm action against all forms of misconduct, ensuring officers uphold professionalism and integrity in their duties.
“It is crucial that all forms of unethical behavior, from bribery to the abuse of power, are decisively dealt with,” he said.
Mahama further reiterated the importance of a police service that operates with transparency and accountability, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement institutions.
