Head coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has reportedly parted ways with his wife, Cristina Serra, following his decision to extend his contract with the club. According to podcasters Laura Fa and Lorenza Vazquez, who shared the news on their El Periodico show, the choice to commit to Manchester City after months of deliberation was a turning point that prompted Serra to “move on.”
Sources in Catalonia suggest that Guardiola had previously considered taking a break from football and relocating to Abu Dhabi, where their son, Marius, currently resides. However, his decision to stay in Manchester and sign a new contract, which extends his tenure until 2027, reportedly led to a mutual agreement to separate in December 2024. This came just a month after the contract extension.
While no official statement has been made, the couple has allegedly informed close friends and family about their decision, requesting privacy regarding the matter.
Guardiola and Serra first crossed paths in 1994 when he was 20, and she was 17. The couple married in 2014 and share three children: Maria, 24; Marius, 22; and Valentina, 17.
In 2019, speculation arose when Serra left Manchester with one of their children to focus on her fashion career. Despite this, she continued to split her time between Spain and London, maintaining contact with Guardiola, who remained based in Manchester.
Although specific details about the separation have not been publicly revealed, Guardiola is likely to channel his energy into reviving Manchester City’s form, as the team has faced challenges in the early stages of the 2024/2025 season.
